Fluid channels, 2022
A body made of many bodies, wiggling our feelers through water and mud. Sensing the soil with our fine, hairy fingers, looping in and around other limbs, permeable boundaries. Soft touch, growing across territories. Borderless Spores travel invisibly with the wind, an underground rizosphere. Where does this animate being end or begin? There are many such endings and beginnings, a constant making and remaking: mycelium. A collaborative existence, a symbiotic sensing entity that is everywhere. Fungi are persistent fugitives, hard to grasp for human understanding, a projection surface, here on this world to stay. There might be doom, there might be ruins of ruthless civilisations and yet mycelium grows through it, through the cracks of a world in ecological grief and social injustice, building soft empires of collaboration.
Inspired by the elusive shapes, forms and forces of fungi, Silvia Noronha translates the nouveau discoveries of fungal symbiosis and communication unknown abilities into a visual installation Fluid channels that makes reference to the occult time scales and magnitudes that happen beneath our feet, this complex and unknown pluriverse of which we know so little about it.
