Silvia Noronha is a material artist, best known for her provocative and aesthetic work regarding the interrelationship between humans and nature. Having grown up in Minas Gerais, one of the heaviest mined areas of Brazil, the social, political and ecological consequences of an industrialized world were always literally in front of her eyes. Being curious about the individual characteristics of materials and how these interact with each other her works have incorporated a wide range of substances including earth, stones, glass, metal and plastic. Using the realm of speculation her current work is focused on how a future geology might look like when man-made and natural materials have fused over time.

In my art practice I intend to give voice to the materials I use. By combining different substances and letting these communicate with each other a dialogue is created in which the viewer is encouraged to take part in. I believe, that what we have so far understood for life does not have such defined boundaries, does not have a precise beginning nor an end.In my latest project I speculated on how a future geology might look like, through simulating the process of stone formation. My intention is to raise questions and create new perspectives on the interrelationship of humans and their surrounding.
