The contaminated soil is also our feet (2023-newly started project)
In the project I am interested in the complex layers of the radica-resilient movement "Loucos por Bento" (Mad about Bento). Here former residents are fighting for the right to reoccupy their land after Brazil’s biggest environmental catastrophe where a dam retaining a broth of toxic mining waste broke, devastating the village of Bento Rodrigues. The inhabitants were resettled due to dangerous and deeply unstable living conditions - besides soil contamination other nearby mining dams are further at risk of collapsing. Since 2016 this group of survivors and former residents have been fighting for the right to reinhabit the ruins of their land - an act of healing return showing that leaving the environment behind is not an option.
